BIOGRAPHY

 

Dr. Cevat Erisken graduated from Middle East Technical University (METU) in Ankara, Turkey, and worked for METU, Scientific and Technical Research Council of Turkey (TUBITAK), Kalecolor Inc., and Roketsan Missiles Industries Inc. following his graduation. During his years in industry, he attended METU and earned a Master of Science degree in European Studies. He was, then, awarded a scholarship by the European Commission to pursue a graduate study in the Department of Economics at City University of London, UK, and he obtained the degree of Master of Science in 2005. The same year, he was awarded with full financial support by the Highly Filled Materials Institute (HFMI), Hoboken, NJ, for a Ph.D. study in Chemical and Biomedical Engineering at Stevens Institute of Technology, Hoboken, NJ, and he completed the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in 2008. He conducted research on the generation of functionally graded matrices for interface tissue engineering applications under the supervision of Dr. Dilhan Kalyon.

 

Following his graduation, Dr. Erisken joined Biomaterials and Interface Tissue Engineering Laboratory (BITEL) at Columbia University in the City of New York in 2008 to conduct research on the design and fabrication of nanotechnology based biomaterials to be utilized in soft tissue-to-bone interfaces relevant for integrative ligament and tendon repair. His research also focuses on controlled release of bioactive molecules from nanofibrous biomaterials to modulate the differentiation of stem cells into desired lineages. Part of his research involves mathematical modeling of release behavior of growth factors from various geometries to be able to better control the availability of macromolecules to the cells. He has authored and co-authored in numerous scientific articles and books, and lectured at conferences and universities.
